I just came back from a land management hunt in South Texas. I took a 700 .243 that I rebuilt in a gunsmithing class, I had a nice Nikon 6-18X I picked up from a fellow forum member, I had my drop chart out to 600 yards...then it all fell apart. I couldn't get the biggest does to stand far enough away. I took three does and my buddy shot another five. I had the longest shot of the trip at 135'. It was not the most challenging, but it was a big help to the ranch's wildlife biologist and the .243 really proved itself with only one of mine moving 15' from the point of impact, the others just crumpled when hit. I'm headed out to scout a State park in Virginia this weekend for hunting next month. I don't think it will have any long range shooting available and will probably use my Contender pistol.
