I am venturing into for me a high end scope. Currently considering Swaro z5 variable, Leupold V6 or S&B 6 fixed. Possibly Leupold fixed 6. Don't need mega magnification. Find CDS and side focus functions intriguing but have no intention of shooting caribou or deer at 600 yards etc. I'm a 450 max and preferably no more than 300 yard shooter at game. All have great optical quality but I'm concerned the gadgets like focus and CDS plus variable function make them subject to failure compared to fixed scopes. Not planning on taking them to a war zone. Ideas/experiences?

With the quality of scopes now days, The variables have moved up also. If you don't like some of the addition, don't get it. Either one of those scopes should last your any number of years. You pay for quality.
Swaro is good glass. Vortex is looking real good also.
I have a Leupold and a Zeiss. Both will last as long as I want them, I'm sure. I like the variable's for my type of hunting.
