US 869

I used it in my custom 264WM 29.5" 1:8" twist with very good results, way above published loads with my free bore allowing all the powder space.
Have also used it in 300 Bee and 340 Bee. Tried it in 300WM with less than desirable results.
The best cartridges for its use were my wildcats made on 416 Rigby brass, blown out with 40° and 45° shoulders in 338 and 375. Could reach max pressure (65,000psi) with 95% case fill as minimum and 100% as maximum, so perfectly matched for the case capacity.
It does burn dirty below max loads, so this may be a deal breaker for some.

Cheers.

Sorry Bearman, no help as I'm in the same place as you are. Since I'm running low on Retumbo, does anyone have experience with 869 in the 300 RUM? I am wanting to use 180 gr TTSX bullets as they are what I already have for now.

I've got 257, 300, 340 wby. 264, 300, 338 win 375 ultra….need any real world experience with this powder in any of those calibers…thank you guys!
While not extensive, I do have some experience with US 869. This powder was developed for large case/capacity with a 95 -100% fill and heavy projectiles. I use it in my 30-378 wby with a 200g accubond and a CCI 250 primer with great results, and i want to start using 225-230g pills with it as soon as i get a hold of some. I did a little research on the Hornady, reloading data center and found two of your listed cases, (300WM, 375 RUM) listed with a lot of combinations of bullet weights. This would be a good place to start.

My newest reloading manuel (Nosler 9) has this power listed in the bottom five slowest burning powders on there burn rate chart. I think it would do very well with your 375 Ultra and the heaves we can choose from today.
Anyway, hope this might help, have a great rest of your weekend, Erik.
