us 869 in 7 mm remington

GB, best I have found for the 168 Berger was H1000 in a Rem 700. Accuracy was outstanding considering the shooter is extremely vision deficient. Haven't loaded any 180's, but 869 seems a little slow for the 7mm Rem. I have used it in a 30/378 Wby and it shot very well, but the sub-zero temps on an elk hunt made me switch to H1000 and Retumbo. Good luck

I'll bet you want to try it because it is available while the usual powders are not. I found Retumbo one of the best in my 7 rem mags.

A quick search showed that one of our members posted this several years ago:

how does this work with 168 to180 grain bullets in the 7 mm Remington magnum?
gary b..

Yes it will work and it does very well with 180 vld's. Post your max COAL that your magazine will allow and your barrel length and I will give you some quickload data. Also, unlike others I have found it to be temperature stable. Not as stable as the "H" extreme powders but definitely workable.

Hi Coyotezapper looking for a US869 Load for the 7RM with 180 ELDM- can you please help me out?

hodgdon shows 77 grains at 2758 fps at 56Kpsi for a 7rem running a heavy (175 in their data)... you are going to have a hard time over-pressuring this powder in this cartridge so run it up till you hit compression and try for around 2800 fps over a chrono...

all the 50 cal ball powders are slow as dirt and in a mid cartridge can be basically loaded up till you run out of room; in a 270win I load a 130 with 69.5 grains of wc872 (sister powder to 869) and she farts out the 130 at 2700 fps... Great for range practice as it's cheap to shoot; I paid less than 10$ a hundred for the bullets and 50$ a keg for the powder...
