Hey guys,

I have a remington 700 in 7mm rem mag and am wanting to put one of the new 8x usmc hi-lux scopes on it. The problem I am having is if the scope can handle the 7mm mag and if the fine cross hairs are ok for hunting?

I will be hunting for sheep, caribou and bear mostly with the gun. It'll be used during the year on the range most of the time though.

If the scope doesn't work I am open to ideas on a scope that is older looking to complete my older looking rifle.

Thanks guys and love the site!

you mention unertle in conjunction with the hi-lux.
while im not at all familiar with the hi-lux im very familiar with unertle and its use for long range hunting. up untill the early 80s or therabout the unertle and a couple others of the same design were very popular with long range hunters. main reason being there were no other good choices. they worked fine and were very reliable. they were used on very large cartridges without
issues. field of view was the biggest issue most of us had with them. it would be easy losing the target during recoil.
my son still has a 15x ultra varmit sitting on top of a classic 40x in 6.5x06.
thats strictly a varmit outfit. i personaly wouldnt even consider putting one on a hunting rifle today other than for varmit use.

yobuck,

Thanks for the reply from someone that has experience from the system. I see what you mean by the line of site and i was worried about this problem actually.

I guess now im considering either an earlier redfield scope( I have a 1970s redfield and love it on a hunting rifle) or possibly a leupold or nikon.

I am just stuck on weather I want a fine cross hair or a duplex. Any advice guys?
