Top 5 hunting rifles at/under $1K

It is true that the Tikka T3 doesn't carry well. I sold mine and bought a Sauer 100 that I really love. Also true of the Tikka T1X 22 LR; it doesn't carry well; just awkward, but at least it shoots well, so I am going to keep it for my son to hunt squirrels with.

But for a rifle less than $1,000; the Sauer 100 cannot be beaten by anyone.

Lowest cost for a good shooter I think would be the Ruger American. I've not seen one that wouldn't shoot and it leaves plenty of cash for a scope. A step above and my preference in a budget rifle would be a Tikka…they all shoot well.
There are deals out there. Most rifles msrp and the street price are very different. A friend just bought a new Weatherby MarkV Weathermark for $1k on the auction.
