Tried to shoot my new STW last Saturday. 180 berger. Reloader 25. 69 grains. CCI large rifle primers. 3.99 oal. Miss fires galore. Not using magnum primers I suspect is my mistakes. Any one else think differently? Trying to reassure myself that was problem

I'm pretty much doing 215's only when I get above 70 grains of slow burning powder. I'll toss in a wlrm once in a while. You are also shooting a mild charge at dang near a half inch over normal oal. with a rather mild primer; I'd almost expect misfires if it's cold out with that light of a load in an overbore like the stw if a standard primer is used.
What's your load delivering for speed?
Have you de-greased your bolt lately?
Do you have a warmer primer to sub? ( fed 215, cci250, wlrm)

I have CCI 250s coming today. It was quite cold that day. I'm wondering how much to bump up load. 73 perhaps???
Marks on primer were really typical so don't think its bolt. Didn't not chrony yet. First 3 shots fired. Got 3 hang fires and 3 Mis fires. Walked back down to the house.
I'm going to bump up charge and try magnum primers. If that doesn't work???? I'm gonna try something else.

Swap to the mag primer first, then walk the charge up a bit. I'd think that 73 would be a good place to be. I was at 75gr. rl25 with the 171 barnes (lit by a 215 at 3.650 oal.) in my rifle, but I'm a 10" twist so she's mild at most loads that would be full throttle in a 9" twist. Mudrunner has more experience than I with heavies in the 7stw; maybe he'll chime in.

I have one of the older Sendero SF rifles with the strange 9.25" twist barrels. It will stabilize the 180 VLD's, but I have not had a chance to load up some Berger 180 Hybrids to try them. I load using Federal 215 (magnum) primers, and H1000 powder. I am fixing to develope a load with IMR 7828 SSC and the 180 Hybrids, and will let yall know how it goes.

Best thing you can do is buy a chronograph. I haven't had the cash to buy the one I want until now. So I ordered my MagnetoSpeed V2 yeterday, and it should be here tomorrow. I might go shooting Friday to test out all the new stuff and work on some load development with the 180 Hybrids.

Its an 8 twist. I'm gonna try 73 grains and magnum primers hopefully on Sunday. U guys ever try matrix VLD's? What ever happen to the berger 195 they talked about. Also I looked at fired 7mm rem mag brass I'd fires before the transformation. Primers looked bout the same so I think its hitting hard enough. That will probably be next thing I look into. Idk. Never had problems before. So far I've shot 221 fireball. 223. 243. 7mm rem mag and 6.5x47 Lapua.

The Odumber Administration is what happened....Bunch of leftist liberal morons tried to take our guns away. Everyone went into panic mode and bought everything they could find. Berger had to increase production to only the basics. They didn't have time to worry about making new bullets. I can't blame them. I would have done the same thing. The speciality stuff would have been put on hold, and current production would go full-steam ahead.
