First really enjoy this site and all the knowledge on it. So I would like to get some input on an idea I've been kicking around.
I have been musing over testing some terminal performance of bullets.
My question is can I load down to get a lower velocity so I could test at 2 or 300 yards and simulate results at 600 + yards?
I'm shooting a Rem 700 in 7mag with a 168gr bullet with Retumbo.
The book shows 66.0 gr as the min load at just over 2800fps.
With my goal of testing at ~2000fps that would be 600 yard-ish. But if I could test around 200 yards that would make life alot easier.
So to my questions-
Any problems with shooting this slow?
Is there a way to ballpark charge without just working down?
Is this even a good/worthwhile idea?
Thanks for your input.
