Like the title says, Iam out of RL-22 powder and looking to purchase a new powder. I reload in the summer in Alberta and shoot in October and into November, temps can plummet down to minus 30 C. Old load was RL-22 with 75.0 grs under WW brass and F215 primer. I did notice some accuracy/consistancy issues with this powder although it shot nice off the bench in the summer. If you had to start from scratch.....I have been leaning towards H1000, H4831SSC or IMR 7828 under a 180 grain Nosler Accubond. Just scored 100 round of Hornady Brass and 100 Nosler Brass, thoughts??

I think the h4831 may give you a little edge over the h1000. I load the h1000 behind a Barnes LRX and my case capacity is at max and still only 2907 fps.

I think you could get more in there with the accubond, but I don't think h1000 really starts to shine until you get up to the heavier bullets. Same rifle with Berger 215s is at 2826 loaded long.

I'm shooting 175 Gn Bergers ( I know, not 180 gn) and have 2 loads that work well using h-1000 and H-4831sc. If I remember right the H-1000 gave me a bit over 2900 and well under moa. H-4831sc gave me a bit slower but still under moa. Hope this helps.

Just built a new 300 Win. Mag. My load is as followers. Please decrease by 10% to start with. As this might be extremely hot for your rifle.
NOSLER Custom brass (NEW) unfired
H4831 74.0 grains
CCI 250 magnum primers
Berger 215 Hybrids 30 thou off the lands
Velocity is 2925 fps with a 26" 1-9.4 Proof Research barrel
Rifle is a solid 1/4 moa rifle out to tested 1000 yards

Good luck

Brian

RE25 is THE powder for 300WM and 180gr Accubonds.
I run Win brass, Fed215 primer, 81gr of RE25 @ 3166fps outta my Kimber 8400 26" barrel.
This load is just under max (82.5gr) and is kind to the brass. It shoots into 3/8 MoA.

Cheers.

Alliant's Reloder 26. Burn speed falls between that of Reloder 22 and Reloder 33,ncorporates EI® technology to produce extremely high velocities in magnum cartridges. Reloder 26 has a high bulk density that allows larger powder charges, and it provides a consistent, controlled response to temperature changes.

Currently using it in my .300WinMag with Hornady's 208gn A-Max and ELD-M. Rifle is a Savage 112BVSS with stock barrel (26") and muzzle brake added. Loading 77.0gn's, using CCI BR2's. Tried magnum primers but accuracy was not there. Getting 3092fps and 1/2 MOA. SD runs 7-ish and ES was 13. Very pleased with this powder.

I was going to load the 212gn ELD-X for deer season this year and was expecting good things from this bullet/load and rifle but a .270 Allen Magnum has stepped in to my life and I'm slightly dazzled, to put it mildly. What a LAZER! :)

I'll get around to the 212's yet. JohnnyK.

I'm in Manitoba so our temperatures would be similar. My vote goes to H1000 and a 215 Berger. Mine shoots as good in September at 20C as it does in November at -30C. Full custom which is throated long. Drives the 215 right at 3000 fps out of a 26" Brux.

You might throw Ramshot Magnum into the mix, I've found it to be very temp stable and I have really good luck with it in the 300 WM !

Alot of helpful information. I do want to stick with 180 grain bullet for long range deer hunting ( 180 Accubond ) very impressed with the performance, I do not want to sacrifice velocity, there is no point I have 3 x 30-06 rifles shooting 165 gr bullets in the 2900 fps range so to drop to 2800 fps in my 300 mag with 180's is pointless. I dont shoot match competitions I hunt deer and elk, the odd moose thrown in. Looking for a powder that will handle the elements and that is the feedback Iam getting, sweet gentsgun)

My vote would still be to try the 215. We have tried them in factory and full custom rifles and the results were all impressive. A 180 in a 300 WM is to light in my opinion. The 215 just seems to work in the 300WM. Crunch a few numbers on wind drift from a 180 to 215 at 1000 yds. Every bit helps.

I'd either go with H4831 or R26. I also recommend the 180 TTSX, seated .100" off the lands in win (or Nosler/Norma) brass.
