My brass gets clean after 45 min to 1 hour, you are doing something wrong.

1st step, take the pennies out and just run dawn, clean hot water, and the pins for an hour or so-- drain and repeat

I had issues trying dawn and leni shine and switched over to the fart brass cleaner solution-- no problems now

l had this tumbler for over three years

If the brass is coming out black you are not putting enough dawn and limieshine you can't add to much dawn

Not enough dawn or the barrel is too full

I'm tumbling 85 rounds of brass and pennies together and changing water every day for over a week and still get dirty water . does the barrels go bad

Take out the pennies. If they are late minted, then they are made of 97.5% zinc. That would turn the water dark when tumbling with pins.

I tumble mine for about 45 minutes with the dawn and 1/8 tsp citric acid. I don't let them get too grungey though.
