Sierra Bullets New .284 183gr MK

what do the tips look like on these 183's? or what are they supposed to look like?
I ordered a box, and the box was broke, some of the bullets had a very small hollow point like hole smaller than the normal matchkings, others where solid tips, a whole lot of the tips was very uneven and jagged - I may have got a bad box or run of em.
I ordered a box of Berger 180 Hybrids along with them... they was in good shape.
the 195 and 180 shoot really well out of my 30 inch 8 twist 284, the 180's are more accurate, but the 195's still avg around 1/2 moa at 100 yds.

I think you did get a bad box. Mine were very uniform! They do have a small meplat which helps up the b.c.

7mm rem mag 28" 8.5 twist krieger barrel no accuracy results yet. trying different powders retumbo 70g 3003 fps working up other powders to reach 3000 fps. Size bullets almost same size berger 195 update later

Seems like you have a good setup. I don't think the 183's will hold to the 195;s at past 1000 yards.. 12 grains less is not going to gain 150 fps at the same pressure..
the 195's with .050 more BC are still going to have less wind drift. but they mat be close.

working with berger 195 1 load up 3000fps few other 2980 . Sierra 183 pressure signs 3050. no long range reports

how much more powder do you use for the 183's vs 195"s ?? reason i'm asking is I have loads for my 284 w 195's and would like a ballpark figure to max out at when I work up.
I use 55.0 H4831 for the 180 Hybrids for a easy load and 2830 fps 30 inch 8.0 twist Krieger and 52.0 for same powder w 195's at 2600 fps (I was at 53.5 w 195's@ 2720 fps but brass was getting a beating after 3 firings, primer pockets on some was lose).
Someone else claimed they could get 80 fps more w the 180 Hybrids vs the 183 Sierra;s. .680 avg bc vs .703 avg bc, does the .023 bc make up for 80 fps loss.??

At 1000 yards the 680 bc 180's are dead even with the .755 bc 195's in my gun w 230 fps more speed as far as wind drift goes. 57 inches per 10 mph wind

berger 195 retumbo 69.4g 3000fps sierra 183 retumbo 71g 3020 / berger 195 7828 67.2 max 2982 sierra 183 7828 68.4g 3058/ berger 195 4831 66.2 max 2989 sierra 183 4831 66.4 3010 more - Still working on h1000 and No go for R33 and 7977 low performance . still might more room left sierra 183 +1g. temps 50-70

design sierra 183 very close berger 195 1/16th shorter closed tip both seem have same length area rifling rides on why pressure velocity are close , haven't shot 180

the lengths seem to be close, the 195's hit lands at 3.255 in oal, 180's 3.245 oal, and the 183's at 3.315 (or was it 3.325) oal.. the Sierras may have a harder jacket and thus it may be the reason behind the added pressure. I have not loaded up any, but have a new box of em. 180 Hybrids are hard to beat. the added rifling area of the 195's does add more pressure. for hunting though, it thinner jacket would be hard to beat.
I've shot a 3 shot 3.11 inch and 2.55 inch group so far with em at 600 yards

Sounds like you have ur 7mm singing along good with the 195's..
like I said befoire in my 284, I get a good 220-240 fps more with the 180 hybrids for the same pressure as 195's. at 1000 yards it's a toss up. at a mile 1760, the 195 will have advantage even with 250 fps slower speed.
also the barrel burning factor, the 195's will use less powder.. prolong barrel life.
