Should I Bed the Scope Rail??

I have a Seekins Havak PH2, and was curious if I should bed the scope rail? It is a separate rail, unlike the Havak Element, so there is the possibility it could benefit. But maybe since it is all part of the same manufacturer/build, it isn't necessary.

Thoughts?

How well does the rail fit the action?

If it matches up really well, then you're unlikely to see any benefit. If it doesn't, then I'd bed it. It doesn't take very long, and isn't difficult.

Another option might be to not use the rail at all and install one-piece rings directly to the receiver. Might work depending on the action length and scope size.

I bedded my rail to keep a shim under one end of the 20moa rail. It allowed my vertical adjustment to be a turn and a half from bottom of the turret. It served that purpose well to maximize my range of adjustment for distance.

@Grizzman47 I haven't pulled the rail to check, but I'll probably do that at least check it and possibly bed it.

@David_h I tend to prefer rails as it allows scope flexibility and my rings aren't locked into being useful for only one action. That is a worthwhile consideration though.

@Bob Wright I never thought about shimming under the rail for some extra moa lift. I'll have to try to remember that trick if I find myself a bit short of elevation adjustment needed.

Unless the rail is integrated, I bed all mine. On the last few ones, I only used a release agent on the screws.

If you don't ever plan on removing it, bond it the action. If it's Cerakoted, bed it but with the release on the action, otherwise the epoxy will pull the Cerakote off when it decides to turn loose, if you do decide to remove it. Ask me how I know

I make sure mines flat, then very thin compound and very light pressure to make sure it stays flat.
