I've used N550 with great results, but only in a hunting situation. I've read that N550 being a double base powder tends to burn out throats since it is so hot. Several people in Europe stay with the regular series of Vit powder to stay away from the "hot" 500 series of Vit. Your situation sounds like their warnings may be true in a rifle shot alot, as opposed to a lower volume hunting rifle.
