Seating Depth Test Help

At this point I would load two of each at 1.655, 1.658, 1.661, shoot them at 600+ yards (or further) and pick the lowest vertical dispersion. It will also likely be the group with the lowest SD.

In a 6 Dasher I have, shooting the 105 hybrids, about .020" jump is where I found best accuracy at about 2950. The custom bullets also shot very well, but seating depth window on those is very tight. Keep check on CBTO as you may need to adjust slightly every 100-200 shots.

I need some help interpreting the results of a seating depth test. Would I be better off retesting the area around 1.658-1.655? The area from 1.649-1.643 seems to jump around vertically a little too much. For reference, the green dots are .5". Also, this was from 100 yards. Thanks in advance for the help.
Don't know your load development process, so maybe you've already done this, but I wouldn't base anything on 3 shot groups alone. Once I have a somewhat promising load or two, I do 10 shot groups to confirm it's fairly legit. Then for your seating depth tests, go back and repeat the exact same test just to see if the patterns repeat or if they were just 3 bullet holes randomly together that day. If you see the pattern repeat, then you're onto something worth pursuing further.

Well, you are going about this differently than I would. You might be way better off than I am.

I would load 100 rounds at CBTO. Then shorten 10 to your starting depth. Maybe CBTO - 0.010". Then shoot until the OD of the group gets bigger than 2 bullet diameters or 3 in a hunting rifle.

Increase rounds
Take the 2 beat groups and short 2 5 shot groups 3 is not quite enough to to get a good read
Thanks! That's exactly my plan. I have loaded some additional long and then I have loaded a bunch long to seat while I am there to test with more shots. Weather permitting, I will also test both at distance.

Just a little update on this. Took it back out and ran another seating depth test and also had a chance to test primer depth after settling on a seating depth. I was surprised how things moved with the primer seating. With the anvil just touching, my rifle shot like crap. There seemed to be a definite sweep spot between .005-.007 below flush.

Here is the result of my second seating depth test and then a group I shot at 700 yards after choosing 1.67" for the depth and primers .005" below flush. I am going to quit jacking around for the moment and just focus on getting better at shooting.
