All,

I'm new to hunting and long range shooting. Previous experience is limited to the Marine Corps M16 and after that numerous AR15 rifles in 5.56. I decided that I would like to get into hunting and steel shooting at longer ranges. So, I bought a Ruger Precision Rifle in 308. I plan on replacing the barrel with a Criterion 6.5 Creedmoor or 260 Rem. I am currently looking for a scope. My scope criteria are as follows:

Mil Reticle that I can also use for ranging
First Focal Plane
Max Power ~ 18x
Max scope weight ~ 30 oz
Max ~$2400

I have been looking at scopes online and have two on my potential list:

Burris XTR II 3-15x
Night Force ATACR 4-16x

What other scopes would qualify under my criteria?

Thanks for your input,

Alex

Back in the articles section of this site, are reviews of the ATACR's.

I found them to be worth the extra $$$. The first one, sold me on the second one.

Get the NXS model from Nightforce....its tried and true!! (and will save you about $400 from the ATACR)

NXS 3.5-15x50 with the Mil-Dot reticle will fit your needs.

One last point, Altex; and the i'll leave this along.
Choice of reticle is a personal decision. I spent some years swearing by my Mil-Dot reticle for ranging. When I learned to use the MOA reticle I found it faster and easier to use for ranging.
The reticle you select is something you'll live with for a very long time, unless you send it back to Mfgr. for change out. So take your time on making that decision.
Best ...............
