I have a 458 Lott ruger #1. Anyone familiar with this setup knows it kicks like a mule! I bought it with a Leupold 1.5-5 VX3 on it. So far so good, although I think it's only a matter of time before she gives up the ghost.

If you were to rescope this rig what would you recommend for a robust scope? TIA

Do you want a zoom? For that gun I think my preference would be a good red dot. Tough and no concerns getting kissed by the scope. Faster shots too if needed for use on a proper African hunt.

I prefer it but not married to the idea.

I built a Lott on a commercial Mauser years back. It's bucks pretty good lol……like any big bore. Only gun in the safe without a scope. I have an adjustable Lyman peep sight on my Lott. Fun to shoot loaded down with copper jacketed 400 grain 45/70 bullets that can be bought in bulk.

Keep it light & small - less inertia, easy on internals, like the Leupold on rifle now. I would not go for any red dot dependent on batteries. Good rings are essential, no forward scope creep , lap if required. Generally price equates with durability (hopefully).

Will 600 grain .458 ELDM or Berger VLD bullets be made for fast twist .458 Lott rifles?
