Hey guys,
I recently inherited a smith model 29-2. Dad had taken the gun and for whatever reason cut the barrel down with a ban saw. He never shot it very far and said it shot fine. Most things do up close, haha. I shot it today and was hard to hold on paper past 25 yards. I have a newer model that I shoot at 100 regularly.

My question is, is there a resource for replacement barrels? I have a smith that could do the work but was wanting to have my facts straight before I go speak with him. Thanks for any help/advice.

I like the factory 6" with the silhouette adjustable front sight.

BTW, the -2nd, generation are most desirable.

Defiantly get a new barrel for it. You need to see if it had a "Pinned" Barrel Recessed Cylinder when ordering a new barrel. Please post some pictures.
Here are some of ours.

We have a Model 29-2 44Mag with 8 3/8" Pinned Barrel, Recessed Cylinder and Target Hammer & Trigger. This one has never been shot except by the factory. Comes in a Wood Oak Case. "Dirty Harry Special". Never touched it or shot. Only to wipe down with G-96

The next is a Model 29-4 44Mag with a 6" barrel and I had it Maga Ported. Also has Smith and Wesson Heads Laser engraved on the side. Shot several Deer with this one! I did the action and trigger on it -SMOOTH! My hunting pistol that I carry in any hunting.

The next is a Model 19-3 .357 Mag. It has a 6" PINNED Barrel, Recessed Cylinder with target sights and hammer. I did a trigger job on it and it is SLICK! Shoots AWESOM this is Jill's pistol.
We have the original wood grips and also additional S&W Wood Grips.

Do some work on the barrel crown…..clean it up and get a nice clean taper! It should shoot just fine! If not……then re barrel! memtb
