I just bought my first Long range rifle and have many many questions. My step dad fortunately is a reloading fanatic for all his deer rifles. The max distance he shoots is 300 yrds. So he can't help me too much outside of that besides with a round. I'm looking at getting the Leupold VX-3 Rifle Scope 4.5-14x 40mm Custom Dial System (CDS) Duplex Reticle Matte for my scope was wanting some feed back. Is it good for out to a 1000 and other tips. Also I know hitting at a 1000 isn't going to come over night. Was just wanting any and all useful tips and info for someone just starting out. Thanks. gun)

No, it is not if you plan on using the CDS function. The best you are going to get is about 700 yards if you use a 200 zero sight in (2" high at 100 yards). (using the 168 gr AMAX at 2700 fps as an example)
