Did some shooting today, after first shot with my 270 had a tough extraction when left the bolt broke and case stuck. Fortunately I removed the case but the bolt is another issue. I've attached a few pics for you guys to check out to see if this is salvageable with a sako or m16. Please let me know what you think.

The brass looked perfectly fine once I tapped it out, the area that broke does not even look like steel, almost like an alloy of some type. It definitely caught me by surprise and after doing some research and talking to others I'm hoping it's something that can be repaired. This bolt has been squared up, is there a possibility that too much material was removed and weakened the extractor area?

PT&G sells aftermarket bolts.
You could probably find an LA R700 bolt for sale somewhere too. Might be cheaper, and safer, than repairing that bolt.

My cousin had an R700 in .300RUM that did the same thing. I had replaced my original R700 bolt for my personal .300RUM, so gave him my factory bolt. Worked like a charm, and has been for about 10 years.

Had simular....highend load that tried to stay,in the chamber...got it out and had fo have a m16 put in....
Buy a new bolt....

Dont get me wrong....a m16 extractor will work fine....much better than the original.....but it is ugly....
