I'm currently running the 208gn ELD-M in my .300 WinMag Savage 112BVSS with a max of 77.0gn of RL26 with CCI BR2's. I worked up to this from 74.0gn and repeated testing using 3 different primers, which I thought this amount of powder needed (Fed215, CCI250 and Rem9.5M) but the BR2's actually gave me the highest veloctiy and best accuracy. This load averaged 3092fps, .53" groups. ES was 13 and SD; 7.23 and has been consistent.
I have not tried the Berger VLD with this powder, however earlier I tried the 208gn A-Max and 210 VLD side by side in this rifle, using Retumbo/CCI 250's and the Hornadys had a slight accuracy edge over the Bergers, and I mean slight. I probably couldn't shoot the difference but with the price difference in the two, I went with the A-Max's and just carried on with the ELD-M's. Velocity was similar.
I have some of the 212gn ELD-X's that I will try this year. Hopefully they shoot as good and as consistent as the 208gn ELD-M. My plans are to take the 208M's to a mile target shooting and hopefuly the 212X's will mirror their performance for hunting. The BC's are close, .670 for the M and .673 for the X, and the velocity should be real close.
Happy shooting and be safe. JohnnyK.
