After shooting 25 big game animals last fall, this is the only Hammer bullet that was recovered. This was a 183g Hammer Hunter that I shot a cow elk with. She was facing me slightly quartered at 400 yards. I shot her in the base of the neck and we found the bullet in the hide just in front of the hip. She jumped down the hill about 15 yards then stood there for a couple seconds and fell over dead. No central nervous system hit. This bullet is perfect bullet performance as designed. Recovered weight was 146g. It shed the nose petals to the end of the hollow point and then became a flat/square front bullet. Like a dangerous game bullet. The flat/square frontal area of the bullet displaces soft tissue perpendicular to the direction of travel, creating a larger permanent wound channel than rounded mushroom form a conventional bullet. There is a physics study of bullet performance that can be looked at called "Shooting holes in the wounding theory". It is quite technical and a long read, but well worth looking at.
