Don't have access to other popular propellants for this caliber. Due to work schedule and moving, I have little time for load development prior to deer season. Gun is recent acquisition and will be used as a backup. Shots likely 300 or less. Savage 110 in Boyd's laminated thumbhole stock. 300 WM with 24" 1:10 barrel. Using H4831SC and loaded .060" off the lands to fit mag box, I had the following:
66.5 gr. 2561 fps
67.5 2635
68.5 2679
69.5 2701
70.5 2748 (Berger book max)
71.5 2788 (Book max 2777 in
72.5 2828. 26" barrel)
73.5 2882
74.5 2916
Primer started to flatten slightly @72.5 and bolt lift SLIGHTLY stiff @ 74.5. Primers never any different than @72.5 and never an ejector swipe.
67.5 to 69.5 formed a .44" group with only a 22fps increase from 68.5 to 69.5. Would you focus on loading in this latter range. Never done such a coarse load development. Seems abit slow and I know it's not the best powder, but it's what I have to work with for now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
