public land hunting for elk & mule deer

In October 2015 myself and 5 other friends are wanting to go on a public hunt for elk and mule deer. We all are gonna get a mule deer tag and cow elk tag with one of us a hull elk tag. We was wondering calls thoughts on where would be the best place to go that isn't to overly populated with other hunters. I would enjoy some input. Thank y'all!

Many Western States have what you want. States I have hunted CO WY MT SD & new to me this year will be Idaho. The best advice I can give you is get out of the truck & put on the miles by foot. Every Game Warden will tell you most hunters never get more than a half mile from road. Good Hunting
