I just did a build and got her all tune in. Well the PTG bolt head I wanted became available after my load development. So when I got the new head I installed my go gauge and it would not close. So I reset my head space to where it was before hand. Now will I have to start over with load development or should I be good to go? Its a Shilen 6.5 cm Savage action. Ptg bolt and bolt head. If someone has reset their headspace and then still used their same loads did anything change besides maybe danum line?

I have never reset my head space and tested loads, but when talking about seating depth you are dealing with thousandths of an inch. Resetting the head space means your bullet will probably not be the same distance from the lands. I would think you would be close on load development but I bet you will have to fine tune it. Anytime you change something (powder lots, primers, brass...) you usually have to tweak things again. Sweet rifle by the way.

I use a hornady lock n load 6.5 cm modified case and a bullet to get my CBTO measurement. In order for it to work you remove the bolt slide the case in there and then slide the bullet forward and I get 2.210. Now when I first got the barrel I did the same measurement with it before I even put it on the gun. So wouldn't your throat ALWAYS remain the same since it is part of the chamber?

Well, maybe so on the head-space question. I guess you'll have to go out and shoot and post your results so we will all know if you actually need to start over or not.

Did not have to start over with anything. Everything was exactly the same +/- .0005 headspace. So great experiment on if anyone wants to change their headspace. Seating depth remains the same and your ocw load will work too. Just your cases headspace will change unless you can get it perfect.

I am always experimenting with stuff like this. Anymore info I find out I will let you all know.

I did do a little experiment with annealing. I was loading and found that 3 out of 6 case felt a little stiff while seating my bullets. If you anneal every 2 to 3 fired cases this will take the stiffness out. I use bushings so I knew everyone should feel the same when seating.

I think I have finally confirmed my seating depth. She is finally shooting how I imagined her too.
