Had a interesting discussion with a friend/client.

We were talking about hunting a Aoudad sheep starting in October . My client knows me well and I offered to invite his customer to come. We were talking about the hunt and his second question was how big was my property we would be hunting on, I told him a bit over 2,500 acres, he then proceeded to tell me about his concern about it not being fair chase--and that most of the properties he had looked at were well over 100,000 acres--I told him that he watched too much YouTube hunting shows--anyway--just thought most of you guys would get a kick out of it.

I don't know your country but I do know that I can show him 2500 acres that he'd never wish to hike in again..........

The right 2500 is more than enough.

Is any hunting in Texas truly fair chase? Isn't it all mainly ranches (high and low fence) with imported animals?

No but does it matter--it's almost 4 square miles? I have a 3700 ac place too..but we only see sheep on about 1500 ac of it.

I ll take a 2500 acre aoudad hunt. It is so thick here you can hunt 5 people on 100 acres and never see one another

I guess not--most everyone I know can spot and kill all that we have in 30-45 min...🫩...most have no idea what 1,000 ac is much less anything over it. I personally know 3 people that own over over 50k acres..let me tell you...it's a small club.

Even if it is, the advantage is still in favor of the game if the hunters are a foot.

'Fair chase' is kinda like 'sustainable agriculture', both just fancy phrases to make someone feel good about themselves.

As for your hunter, tell him it's pretty much in favor of the game since you instituted your no gun, no weapon policy at the ranch. Only whatever tools/weapons he can make on site with his bare hands can be used.

I was thinking of maybe giving the animals a "sporting " chance and suggest him using only open sites for the "small" acreage n no glassing after leaving the truck lol
