This is a pre-war Model 70 in 30 Gov't (30-06) with a Lyman receiver sight. It would easily be a $2,500+ rifle if some knucklehead way back when hadn't trimmed the stock for a recoil pad. It's still a cool piece of retro firearms history, and about half priced at $1,350 (now $1,250) + $35 Priority Mail. It is the rifle with the receiver sight in the photos...the 1955 Featherweight is sold. I'm selling for an elderly friend.

Bill, the rifle belongs to a neighbor. I'm just helping him out reducing his collection of rifles and shotguns.

Is the stock modified for the receiver sight? Is the bridge tapped?

The Lyman has a cut-out in the base that contours around the stock, so no inletting is necessary. The front bridge is tapped, as it was from the very first Model 70 made. This was to allow for the rear mount for the long Unertyl and Lyman target scopes of the day. The rear bridge is not D&T'd.

The receiver sight is a Lyman 45 WJS, probably worth $200+ alone. The normal Winchester rear sight is still in place, so you could remove the Lyman to make the rifle more original.
