Hey guys, I have been working loading for a 6max and am looking for a slower powder that isn't so hard on my barrel. I have tried using h1000, speed is fine but not very good groups or sd numbers. Not real full in case either. What about Retumbo or n568 or something else? I have a great load for speed and accuracy so good there.
Thanks

Sorry didn't know about your 6max cartridge

Ram shot grand, LRT. never used them but have used TAC, Big game, and hunter with great success. I think you'll get more case fill

109 berger. I used n570 to get a good speed and great accuracy, but it is death to the barrel. Trying to find a good accuracy load with easier heat powder

I know, I just don't know about which powder is better for barrel wear than others. I have a burn speed chart but not temperature one.I just trying to find a cooler one. I know n570 burns hot but not sure about retumbo vs 565, or 4831sc vs h1000. All are similar in burn speed and will probably shoot well but which will keep cooler. I will keep plugging away. Just not alot of info on this one. 6 Sherman Max with 109 berger. 26" stainless Bartline by Di precision, Seekins pr2 action. krg stock

Look at N-165, Sta-ball HD and maybe Ramshot Grand.
I have been using 165 in a couple cartridges this year and Like it.
Just a thought.

What kind of speeds are you getting with the 109? North of 3500?

With 67.4gns of n570 I am up to 3624 at pressure. With 63.8 I am 3460 at pressure. I live at about 3000 ft

Don't know how your cartridge compares to what I load, but my 270 WSM with 129 gr Barnes LRX likes StaBALL 6.5 and my 300 Win Mag with 168 gr Barnes TTSX likes Ramshot Hunter.

My daughter's 308 with 150 gr Barnes TTSX loves CFE 223. Produces over 2,900 FPS from a 22" barrel and the best accuracy.

After loading for numerous 30-06s over the past 2 years, a few like the same load but most like something just for that specific gun, so do some experimenting.
