I am looking to load some 320 grain (and maybe 300) cutting edge bullets in my 378 Weatherby.

I received this load data from CE for the 320 grain bullet:

Do any of you have any experience with any of these powders? Any you like more than the others? Any advise would be greatly appreciated as I am very new to reloading.

Barrel length of rifle is 30"

Thank you for your time

I think all of them are good options. Some of your decision will probably be made by what you can get.

I look for a powder that I can get very close to full case without compressing the load very much. Slight crunch of the powder is ok.

I have all of those powders except the VVs (too expensive in my opinion). I would not use the RL powders listed (to temp sensitive) though Aliant does make others that are temp stable (RL-23 for example). Of those listed I'd go with Ramshot Magnum. It is high performance and very temp stable. Shoots lights out in my 338 RUM.

I'm with Engineering101 , Ramshot magnum is by far the most accurate in my 7mm RUM and my 300 RUM and seems to not have the recoil of retumbo .

Does Retumbo work in 378 Weatherby? I have not seen any loads for it. I am leaning to the Ramshot

I use the VV in my 300 wby with excellent results, temp stable, seems cleaner also. As stated by others the RL22 was very temp sensitive during the summer months. Had not luck with the IMR. I have heard good things about RL25 going to get some at try it. Enjoy, experimenting is the most fun. Just start within the lines.

So would this load be ok?

Ramshot Magnum (Big Boy) 98.0 113.5 7.35 2766 99.6 55840 13163 1.292 !

I think that these were computed for a 26" barrel, what sort of velocity increase would I get from a 30" barrel do you suppose?

I actually shoot a 378 Weatherby. No brake either.

Not to say other powders wouldn't be as good but I doubt much better.
