I am picking up my new rifle. It is a 7mm Rem Mag built on a trued 700 action with a 24 inch Bartlein #3 flutted with a 1:8 twist, Timney trigger, mounted in a Brown Precision stock. I built this rifle to shoot 160-175 grain bullets ( I like Nosler ). What powders are y'all using for the heavier bullets? Thanks

Retumbo, h1000, 4831, RL 26, RL 23, and VV560. I prefer Retumbo for 175/180 at this point but it is hard to get if you don't have a stash. But any of these could give you a good load. For 160s, I'd start with 4831.

My brother's shoots the 162 with Retumbo @ 3070 very well. I have 700 police I'm shooting RL26 with the 168 berger @ 3110 but I have not dialed in the load completely. It is sub moa and should improve with seating depth work just have not shot it much.
9.5 twist in my brothers and 9.125 twist in mine.
The police shoots the 150 accutip I bought with the rifle into a ragged hole. The blue box federal 150 load shoots close to the same with all going well inside a 1inch square on a redfield target at 100yds. After 300yds though neither are much better than 1moa.
I'm leaving for a week tonight and should have that done by the time I get home if all goes well

For 160s:

H4831 is a stalwart powder. Max charge is ~65grains, 2930fps (26"). Not the fastest, but h4831 will have a charge weight that produces 1/2" groups.

H1000 max is ~71 grains, 3080fps (26")

Retumbo, you will most likely run out case capacity before you max pressure. Probably a better option for 175s.

RL22 max is ~66 grains, 3050fps (26")

RL26 max is 69.5 grains, 3100fps (26")

RL23 is also a good option.

IMR7828 max is ~66.5 grains, 3015fps (26")

Start 10% before max and work up.

I'm shooting retumbo with 180s, h1000, rl23, rl26, rl25 works good to but it's not temp stable, h4831, there's lots of powders to use. I'm shooting adg brass I would highly recommend this brass.

I like WXR the best for 7mm RM, but it is rarely available any more. My favorite for 7mm RM that I also use for 30-06 and 270 Win is IMR 4350. I get very good results in all 3 calibers. It works for 100-175gr. bullets in 7mm RM reloads. The lightest bullet I load for 7mm RM is a 140gr. I can't justify loading anything lighter, especially a 100gr. bullet w/ around 70grs. of powder in this caliber.

Getting great results with Retumbo and Berger 175 Elite Hunters.

3035fps average with SD of 11 and ES in the low 20's, not perfect but its sub-half MOA.

I was looking at using Adg. With the ADG brass how much are you reducing your load? Is it for the life of the brass or just first firing? Are you finding slower speeds, or does the thicker brass keep pressure up enough to maintain?
