I just traded for a Win 70 XTR Sporter. I want to pillar bed the stock but have never done one before. Looking at the back screw hole it looks like there is not enough wood at the top of the stock . Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

There are times that the pillar needs to be turned downin diameter at the top to remain hidden under the receiver tang. This may be the case with your rifle.
