does anyone care to reveal their pet 06 loads for 165-180 grain bullets. having TS Customs build me a rifle for hunting to 500 yards and I have not loaded the 06 in about 30 years. thanks Jim

Morning Hyde Hunter, My load in 3006 is 58 grains of imr with a 165 hornady sst it shoots one hole and the gun is a c/z 550 that I had a muzzle break put on, it pretty much fills the case, but I would say start at least two grains lighter with a copper free barrel, Hope this helps!

I've got 2 rifles in the 06, A Browning A Bolt Stalker and a Ruger American Rifle that shoot the same load in 1/4 inch groups. It's 58.3 grains of H4350, Winchester brass, CCI BR2 primers and 165 grain Sierra Game King bullets. These loads are hot so work your way up. Also the Ruger likes 56 grains Reloader 17 powder.

You may want to give IMR 4451 a try, while its no 30-06 my Creedmoor shot a 5 ES and 2.5 SD the other day.. I'm liking this powder. If I didn't have a Relaoder 17 load with 208s I would definetly try IMR 4451...

I've been working up loads for my Rem.700 Long Range 30-06 with a 26" barrel. This is the loads that have been working well in my rifle.

Look to IMR 7828 SSC if you're planning on leaning towards the 180's or heavier. I shoot the Berger 185 VLD's in my 26" heavy .30-06 AI.

180 Nosler Partitions and 56 grains of H4350 accounted for 1 shot kills on 3 Warthogs, a Baboon, Springbok, Kudu, Impala, Wildebeest, and a Zebra. Maybe not the best, but it works.

Good luck

Jerry

My pet load that has shot superbly in every 06 I have tried it in is a Win case with a WLRP primer and 59 grains of H4831SC powder under a 180 grain Hornady IL or Speer flatbased spirepoint bullet seated .010" of the lands. My S-I-L tried this load with a Remington case and it shot just as well. This load is generally more accurate than most shooters can shoot. But until you shoot it in your gun??? Give it a try, you'll like it.
