I am almost done setting up my .338-06...Weatherby Ultra Light with Leupy Scope and Talley Rings.

I plan to shoot 210 gr. Barnes Triple Shock X bullets. Anybody have any suggestions on powder and charge weights?

I was leaning towards Varget since it's temperature resistant. I live in Iowa and will be hunting elk in Colorado in November...a little bit of a temperature change between now and then. Thanks for your help.

I am shooting a 338-06AI with a 175 HH Hammer with 59 grains imr3031 in a 21.5" barrel, Mansor rifle, groups 3/8" at 100 yards going 3127 fps. In a 6# 2 oz rifle, plus scope.

Just ordered some more of these for my 338 Sherman. I used CFE 223 and SWP with them on the last go. Any results on game with them?

Also have a load with the 213gr HH but it is sloooow...

338-06AI
185gr Hornady CX
59.5gr Accurate 2520
R- P 30-06 Brass
WLRM Primers
COL 3.320

Win M70 with a 22in Proof Barrel and Silencer, 3062fps average, groups right at 1 inch.

338-AI
225 gr. Hornady SP
53 grs. IMR 4320
Winchester cases
WLR primers
338-AI
225 gr. Hornady SP
58 grs. IMR 4350
Winchester cases
WLR primers
Both loads are over 2500 fps and are very accurate out of my custom 98 Mauser with a 22 inch XX Douglas Supreme barrel, IMR 4320 is a few fps faster but not enough to make a difference, accuracy is about the same. I turned a mature bull moose completely upside down with the first load mentioned at 150 yds. On a side note my fire forming load with 56 grs. of IMR 4350 behind a 200 gr. Speer Spitzer is plenty accurate to hunt with and I killed a black bear with this load while fire forming cases.

More new year miracles for those inquiring minds...

338 Sherman (you won't have this case capacity with a straight 338-06) with the 175 Hammer Hunter. 22" barrel

Peterson case
64.5gr Varget
CCI 200
3.278" COAL

3207 FPS

With a straight 338-06, I think you would be in the 3050+ FPS.

SOme of the loads given in reply to you request are for the Ackley Improved version of the .338-06. The AI has greater case capacity than the standard cartridge. So thise AI loads, if they are max, are going to give you overpressure. Just wanted to point this out....
