I am looking to buy a used POF 308. What is the quality of POF AR's? Hoping to get some opinions from a few people. Especially anyone who has owned or shot them.

I have reviewed the specs on their website and they look well-built.

JUNK, not a serious rifle in regard to its design linage, its heavy, ugly and uses an unnecessary piston system that you can only get parts for from one source. I could recommend others but without knowing your intentions its hard to say.

Also in my opinion stay away from snipers hide if you want good info on that weapon look at m4carbine.net, but just fyi you will not find many favorable reviews on it there.

Wish I would have gotten your opinion a little earlier. I met the guy who had the POF for sale and liked what I saw and bought it. I am going to take it out tonight and see how well it shoots.

Hoping it groups well and feeds/functions without any problems.

Are there any others out there who have used the POF? Patriot has a 1 MOA guarantee. I do not know how well they will stand behind their product.

By looking at their specs, it seems that they use good barrels and nickel plated bolts. It does not seem like they skimp and cut corners.

here is a link to what I bought
16.5 P308 NP3

I know there are better rifle, like the JP, but this was over a thousand less.

I would have to respectfully disagree for one fairly specific reason.
If GAP chooses the POF platform to build their GA10 from...it's obviously not junk.
They have the capability to make their own "anything" and choose to have POF build to GAP specs.
It's far from "junk".
There are design items that may not be in someone elses "personal preference" and that's fine. I wouldn't personally buy one, but only because I prefer to assemble to my own personal preference. I don't like compromise...but lots of guys have no interest in customizing their rifles.
I don't like the weight that is added with the monolithic style upper...but I love the fact that it's there. A solid rail on top means you can place your optic anywhere.
I love their NP3 finish, even though i don't like that it's so "flashy"...I'd rather have some form of tan.
I would agree that a piston system is unnecessary in an AR, but so is a quad rail.
Some people prefer a piston to DI, for their own reasons.
For me, running a suppressor in a hunting platform means it wouldn't matter...the chamber is going to get filthy anyway and under normal strings of hunting fire...it's not going to get hot with DI, so I have no need for a piston system.
Most piston systems are proprietary so that comment is pretty moot. If you want a piston, you're going to have to replace piston parts with pieces the manufacturer uses.

As for SnipersHide in general...I see it as no different than ANY other forum.
You have to know why your there, and what kind of info you're looking to get.

I come here for info on wild cats, LR shooting and occasionally to just poke around for fun in case I can offer an opinion.
I visit SH for a variety of other reasons, including field craft, suppressors, the for sales section, and others.
Every forum has it's focus and they are ALL riddled with BS info from wanna-be's that don't know their head from their ***. ALL OF THEM.

I visit about 5-6 different forums, and usually seek specific info from the one that is more geared toward that discipline.

The choice on the POF is a fine choice for a rifle, but as mentioned...it really depends what you plan to do with it, your future intentions, and the price you scored it for.
I looked at two today, one was 2900, and the other was 3200. I wouldn't buy ANY AR for that price, because I enjoy customizing them and I've never seen one set up the exact way I wanted.

If you're happy with the price, and it shoots well...then you didn't make a mistake at all.

Thanks C-bass16,

I liked your view on this and appreciated your insight. The POF is a pound or so heavier than I would like.

I have AR's in 223/556 platform and wanted a 308 for several reasons. One of which is I am mounting a D-760 night vision on it and am going to dedicate it to using for night varmint hunting. Another reason is I have bought a lot of 168 gr SMK gold match.

Some of the things that I was interested in from people who have experience with them is:

  • Does their POF shoot and group well
  • Has anyone had problems with malfunctions or jams
  • Are they accurate
  • How is the company on customer service
I have wanted a JP. From what I have handled of them I am impressed. The POF seem pretty solid and I paid 2,500 with a case and 3 mags.

I will shoot it tonight (hopefully). If it shoots and groups well I will keep it, if not then may order the JP.
