This is one of the most beautiful and amazing things I get to experience
It's one of the best things I get to enjoy living where I do.
Build a fire in the backyard and cook dinner.
Absolutely one of the best things ever
Dutch ovens on the fire
A lost art that is not lost here

Nothing like cooking over wood with cast Iron. Dutch ovens work great because the cast iron in them hold the heat. You want to be aware of the type of wood you use. Hard wood that burns slower but produces more heat. If we are camping or just cooking in our back yard we prefer Hickory, Pecan ,Mesquite, Cheery, Apple, Oak, Cheery, Aldar. some are good for heat and some for smoking.

I see that this post is mostly about Cast Iron Cooking. If you have a big enough pot you can cook a whole turkey with veggies or a huge Chuck Roast with tators, onions, carrots. Stewed tomatoes, Green/Red Bell Peppers, celery, beats and TURNIPS!!!! Put that big pot in with the coals from last nights fire and 8-10 hours later the Dinner Bell was RUNG!!!
