One hole satterlee

Shooting at 100 is sometimes a waste of ammo with a good rifle because they are almost all one hole and you can't see the difference between the good and the better.

This. I also shoot at 500 yards for velocity testing.

Did a satterlee test today with my 250AI and the 81 gr Shock Hammer over LT-32. The spread was 39.3 - 41.1 gr and even with that the rounds went into a ragged hole. This is a first for me. The flier was me. 6 in the hole the 7th was a flier and showed pressure signs so I stopped there.

Don't you just love it when your rifle surprises you like that? I did the same thing back in Sept, working up loads for my 6.5x47 Lapua, with the 123 gr Absolute Hammer over SW Precision. The 8 shot satterlee really impressed me.

Gotta love that!!! I had something very similar happen once 2 years ago with my DIY savage 110 heavy varmint sporting a 24" Shilen chambered in .260 rem. I was working up to find max load for 143 eldx's. Shot it through a chrono that day. 14 rounds loaded in .3 grain increments. Lowest velocity was 2687 fastest was 2925. Found 3 decent nodes. Looks like I pulled 1 shot, the one 2 inches left was actually a shot from a different rifle (dads 30-06) shooting at the next target over. The bullets just very slowly walked up the target a bit as the velocity increased.

To add what others have suggested ... do NOT change that seating depth. Sounds like you found it.

It's not a satterlee test at 100. Nice group though. I tried at 400 and struggled to see results, at 650 it was much more clear and understandable. The worst part was having to go down there every shot and check/mark impact!
