Not so scientific look at how bullets perform.

Had one bullet this evening not land on steel at 1027 so I dug it out, Berger 215 from my 308 with an impact velocity of 1510 fps.

I hope Eric and the staff at Berger are watching the documented performance of the 215's as it grows. There is a little magic here as far as I can see. The differences we know about in the nose of the 215 is something we need to note. A 308 at 1000 plus with great accuracy and an obvious boost for the caliber from the .696 BC. What I would say is a very nicely expanded bullet into clay at 1510 fps impact velocity.

My old 300 win has blasted through soft antelope at 1285 yards with golf ball size exits. I just may have to extend my 1000 yard limit for this rifle / bullet on elk.

Thanks for the data men.

Assuming the 215 would shoot to about the same velocity as the 210 out of my 300wm, at 8500 avg elevation where I hunt this 215 would hold 1550 ft*lbs and 1800 fps out to 1200 yards. Just based on velocity/energy #'s and the proven track record of this bullet, I would say the 215 hybrid turns a 300wm into a 1200 yard elk rifle.

I agree with a proven combination, good conditions and last but for sure not least, adequate pre-season practice.
