It's because the Erectors suck and get stuck so you have to nock them into place. My buddy does this and I had to do it on his vx3i to site it in. I can go to the other thread where I stated this. It's post 183 on the top of page 13 the thread is Lots of people like to bash brands.
I know, just referencing for all the leupy supporters and other people who are just looking for information here.I'm on the same thread. Haha.
First, I liked your post, need some humor in this train wreck. In every discipline of shooting, be it shotgun, rifles or handgun, there's a contingent of salty old veterans (both kinds) who have literally "been there and done that". You have to listen to them because most of them have worn out and thrown away more shooting gear than you've seen,
Some of you sound like you could join the #metoo movement based on what NF has done to your psyche.
agree. it's a common leupold thing. And when you forget to whack the scope, what happens is you make adjustments, take a shot and it's in the same spot as the old group. the next shot is in your "adjusted" position. It's because the Erectors suck and get stuck so you have to nock them into place. I'm on the same thread. Haha. You cant say anything negative about any brand without someone calling you a fanboi, discrediting your experience, or giving a complete 180 of their experience with the same product.

yes I knowIt was probably straight from a leupold rep 30'yrs ago. They havent recommended that forever.
I both emailed and called Leupold and both responses were "TELL HIM TOO STOP DOING THAT"To be fair I don't know why my friends do that. They have exposed turrets and tap on them with a coin or the handle of a small pocket knife. There's got to be some superstition or weird campfire folklore going on there. I've only ever seen it with leupold owners too. Someone, somewhere, told somebody to tap their luepolds to get the adjustment to move and then it spread like covid.
In light rifle space, think about the dollars that are spent to run Carbon Fiber stocks or Titanium actions. Saving 6-10 ounces on a scope that otherwise is as good as or better than a comparable product, and for the same or less cost to the end customer is a big win in my book. My cost margins are the same, so no big win for us on the $ side in the switch.
