New Nosler Long Range

After ordering back in January I finally got my new nosler rifle. A Long range in 33 nosler.
Havent had the chance to shoot it a bunch yet, mounted a burris veracity 4-20ffp. Bore sighted and shot a few to get it sighted close enough for load workup. The first two shots went just a shade over 1/2" and an inch off the center- best bore sighting I have ever done.
No brass or factory ammo in Canada yet, so I sized a few 26 nosler down to get me going, and have a couple boxes of 30 nosler coming. Should be an easier job forming from the 30 cases.

Midway had some cheap 30 Nosler factory ammo that was much cheaper than brass.

Its right at 6 1/2 pounds, which is fairly light for a "longrange" gun. When I ordered it there were no specs out, I was hoping they would have gone up to more of a sendero contour barrel. But it is .625" right before the muzzle threads.
That said the first couple shots from it were pretty promising. I ran a ladder with the 265lrx at 300 yards, 72-76.2gr 4831. I will need to reshoot it a bit further out, but 74-75.5 had under a 1/4moa of vertical and was about 1/2moa wide.

If I was going to do another 33 it would be on a standard rem length long action. The nosler rifle limits the mag length to 3.41" which leaves a good bit of bullet length inside the case. I seated on round to fit the mag length of a rem 700 (on the left) with the 285eld the start of the boat tail hits the neck shoulder junction almost exactly.

That is one superlight rifle for such a powerful cartridge. I'm surprised by the short chamber and contour of the barrel. 625 is about the same as a Rem Sporter barrel.
How's the recoil?

Well the recoil is what you would imagine. With the brake on I would say it is a bit more stout than say a 30-06 in a tikka t3. Without the brake its pretty sharp. The kind of sharp that makes your earmuffs slip off your ears.

I ordered mine as a pre-order right when they were announced, so I didnt know the specs out of the box. Took a gamble. I was hoping they would take advantage of the action length and go with a 3.7 or .8" mag box, and go with a barrel close to a sendero profile.

Actually that oal in my picture is to fit mag length, with the 285eld thats a good ways off the lands. Without looking in my notes I am thinking it was almost .1" off the lands to fit in the mag.

That's quite a neutering of a 338 with a 285gr ELD. I guess it depends what you expect out of the rifle; If you want a hunting range rifle...say 800ish yards....what you have is plenty. But a 338RUM is probably the easiest thing to get in a standard long action Remington. I got an Edge to fit as a repeater, it takes some work with a Dremel and is not for the timid. But shooting out to 2000 yards the 2945fps I get with the same bullet is extremely competitive.

Its short for sure, but it should still push close to 2700fps, which is plenty. I have other rifles to play the longer range game with, for a 600-700 hunting rifle mixed with some moose and griz it should be a nice setup.
The issue with an edge or rum is you need a wyatts extended box if you want to get the start of the boattail to the shoulder/neck junction with most high bc bullets. I run the 300 berger at 4.1" oal in my edge, which is single loading no matter how you do it in a rem action.

I meant to weight it this week- but I had a issue creep up and sent it off to a smith. Totally my fault, shot another ladder test just refining what I got with the 265LRX, first three shots had basically no vertical, then it jumped up. Way up. I should have stopped and checked over the rifle, but I fired one more round. Beside the last one, way high. Looked the rifle over, the scope slid forward maybe a 1/16th of an inch. Enough the ocular bell touched the rear ring. I backed off the front ring/base bolt (nightforce rings) and the scope came off in my hand, rear ring and base still attached to it... totally a rookie move on my part. Never had a scope slip before, even on a 375h&h or my edge. But the recoil on this one is pretty snappy.
