I am curious what distance "long range" means to most.
I have taken 2 elk at 408yds and 505yds using only holdover radii....
Thoughts?

It was the caliber that got me started down this Long Range rabbit hole I do love it but she's 18 pounds and she don't get carried a whole lot I have a 6.5x 284 Norma that's a little lighter at about 11 pounds I'll carry it a little while but if I'm hiking through the woods I use the old meat stick which is a 30 year old Winchester model 70 in 3006, But occasionally I have been known to sit on a gas pipeline with my 338 and stack up a couple dear by 10:00 AMThank you Sir !
You like 338 for your lrh?
Yes too short in my opinionInteresting. I found a takeoff 338 barrel....was thinking about replacing the 6.5cm....but its only 20". Seems weirdly short.
