I was recently sizing some 270 Winchester brass and had several necks break off inside the the full length sizing die. The brass that this happened with all has R-P headstamps and is also supposed to be once fired. I have never had this happen with before with any caliber. I have loaded 270 Winchester before and have not had this problem before. Can someone please tell me what may have caused this?

Did you forget the lube? You sure its a 270 Winchester die and components? I have never had this problem before.

Yes I did use lube and it is the right die. I used the same die set to load some 270 Wins before. I also sized some other brass at the same time but only had problems with some of the R-P brass. The brass lot is made up of mixed headstamp.

I think you answered your own question with this "The brass that this happened with all has R-P headstamps and is also supposed to be once fired." don't get me wrong I'm not being a wise guy.

I've never had that problem either, but I've never use RP brass.

Perhaps they need to be annealed, sounds like they got hard and brittle. Perhaps they were actually fired more than once...?? Or, maybe just really old??
