N568 Vihtavuori Powder

I would have thought you would be right around 3000-3,200FPS with the PRC and 140's.... .?

I'm not sure what the point of your question is? The data I was showing was real world data for a 156 gr Berger and N568, not a 140gr anything. My Magneto speed has been fairly accurate up to now. With H1000 I can easily reach 3040fps with the 156. I've been shooting the 3040fps load for 3.5 years and the load has been checked out to 1000 yards and I've whacked 22 big game animals with it.

My point was curiosity because I was surprised so rather than make assumptions I asked.

I guess I misread because I thought you were talking about 140 ballistics.

My apologies guys,

I should have mentioned that I meant the VV N568 powder ...

I've got N165, N170, N560, N565, N570, 24N41 & 20N29 that work awesome in key cartridge & bullet combos, haven't been able to get the N568 stuff out here yet, of course this plandemic bs created more difficulties in getting any kind of powder
Reading through this thread made me go looking. I'm seeing it available at a lot of places I frankly never heard of before but I'm also seeing it at a half decent price from vendors like Powder Valley. PV is not one of my favorites because sometimes they are very slow in shipping but they are not one of the pop up scammer sites.

Here is some N568 data from my 6.5 PRC, 1:8 26in Proof, Hornady brass. I am still working up a few more loads trying find pressure or run out of case.

If your not using a drop tube you might run out of case capacity before you hit pressure. I used a 12" drop tube to get mine in the norma case and then shook the case after the bullet was seated. Without the drop tube it was at the neck. With the drop tube it was just below the shoulder junction.

You are correct, a drop tube is really the best solution for these bulkier/slower powders. I don't have a drop tube but tapping the powder down does help. I need to invest in one because it would help with 8133 as well. I have a very good load using the Barnes 127 LRX and 60.9gr IMR8133 for those tougher critter hunts. The nice thing about the slower powders is they give a nice tight powder column, I think that lead to more consistent ignition.

Yeah, the 140gr-143gr class bullets make well over 3100 in my rifle. I have a really accurate Hornady 143 ELDX load with H1000 that runs around 3120fps, but the Berger 156gr EOL crushes it by so much in the 500-1000 yard region I can't justify using anything else for my hunting needs. So far the 156 has been pretty deadly, 4 single shot kills on the Coues bucks, 17 one shot kills on African Antelope and one 2 shot kill on an very large Eland. Its been 7 years since I've used a different brand of bullet. I shot a Cow Elk with a 180gr Nosler Accubond from my old 300 WSM 7 years ago that worked fine.

For those getting good results from the N568, which primers are you using? 215M, BR2, or 210M? Hornady specs magnum primers, but some people seem to get better es/sd from the LR primers.

I tried some test loads in my 7mm rem mag and used Kaseyfied's test with the rifle he was building. I didn't need a drop tube using 175 grain Nosler Partitions.

I used Federal LR (not magnum) primers with N568 and Sierra GameKing 175-grain 7mm bullets in a 7mm Rem Mag. Got 3,000 fps with grouping close to one ragged hole at 100 yards. I was surprised the non-magnum primers worked so well. The powder load was around 104% of nominal capacity per QuickLoad; I tapped the case a bit to settle down the load.
