Will be picking up a x47 in the next week and it's sole purpose for me will be target shooting.
I've been reading posts here and elsewhere to get a handle on bullets/powder and I keep seeing this cartridge is used a lot with fast powders like Varget.
Is there a reason faster powders are used with this cartridge? I planned on using 130-135gr bullets.

Because of great consistent accuracy. My rifle will shoot no greater than the 3s group after group. Here is my load, but may not be the one for your rifle. Approach load development safely.

130 Berger 40 gr H4350
110 HH 38.5 gr Varget 3048 fps
110 HH 40 gr Varget 3134 SD 1 ES 3

I use RL17 in my wife 6.5x47L with 129 ABLR bullets. These are the groups it's been shooting since day 1. 2922fps from a 22" Rock Creek light profile barrel. .600 @ the muzzle.

That's 5 rounds @ 100 yards with her shooting it and as of then she had never shot a rifle from the bench.

I've only used H4350 in both of my 6.5x47's. One is a RBros heavy gun I practice with. It shoots the 130 Berger HVLD with 42.2 gr at just under 3000 FPS out of a 26" Broughton. Other is my tree stand gun. 41.5 gr with a 124 HH at 2938 FPS. Out of a 25" benchmark. I think I could go higher with the 124 HH load. I used my old 130 AB load. Shot great, so I just left it.

Generally accepted wisdom for top accuracy is Varget for light to mid weight bullets, and H4350 for mid to heavy. Case fill is one consideration, but both powders are excellent whichever you choose.

I use Varget for 123-130 gr bullets and have no regrets. 85gr HH shoot excellent too.

I have found 37.2 Varget with 140 gr bullets to be very accurate. 2720fps from 23" PR barrel. My old Bartlein barrel liked 37.5gr Varget. Was getting very slight ejector mark.
