500yds dropped in his tracks
From the pix and description, I cannot tell if per title a road kill or not?
No road kill lol
I knew that, just hoping you'll elaborate.
Public land . Not very much long range opportunities here but farm fields an power lines . I was on a powerline with only a 20 ft window to catch one crossing I had pre ranged three spots 258 , 550, 675 no time to verify with range finder. held high on my 500 yd crosshair Told myself squeeze n watched him drop in his tracks . Low budget build rem action hart barrel 4.5 x 14 leupold vxl3 7mm 180 target Bergers 69.5 retumbo .
FWIW, in my book 500 is long range, give yourself a pat.
Anything beyond 1/4 mile is LR, anything beyond 1/2 mile is ELR, LOL
Sounds like the way I hunt coyotes. I range spots ahead of time (cause once they're coming to the call they don't usually allow the time/movement of ranging again) and attempt to remember the landmarks and distances. Holdover reticles work great for this kind of hunting. Great fun.
Great shot and great deer !
I'm over in Ft.Walton Beach and you are right -very little LR shooting around these parts -and on public land =wow..
Care to annouce on the internet exactly where your spot is -i'll only hunt it on the weekends! LAF !
Nice rifle too.
Congrats. Almost a keyhole shot at that range which ups the difficulty factor quite a bit.
