Public land . Not very much long range opportunities here but farm fields an power lines . I was on a powerline with only a 20 ft window to catch one crossing I had pre ranged three spots 258 , 550, 675 no time to verify with range finder. held high on my 500 yd crosshair Told myself squeeze n watched him drop in his tracks . Low budget build rem action hart barrel 4.5 x 14 leupold vxl3 7mm 180 target Bergers 69.5 retumbo .

FWIW, in my book 500 is long range, give yourself a pat.
Anything beyond 1/4 mile is LR, anything beyond 1/2 mile is ELR, LOL:)

Sounds like the way I hunt coyotes. I range spots ahead of time (cause once they're coming to the call they don't usually allow the time/movement of ranging again) and attempt to remember the landmarks and distances. Holdover reticles work great for this kind of hunting. Great fun.

I'm over in Ft.Walton Beach and you are right -very little LR shooting around these parts -and on public land =wow..
Care to annouce on the internet exactly where your spot is -i'll only hunt it on the weekends! LAF !
