I have an older push-feed model 70 action. It's not a stainless steel action and it was manufactured in 1968. I was wondering if a 338 Lapua could be built on it.

Thanks for any insight.

I know it has been done many times but its my professional opinion that it should NEVER be done. The reasons are very clear.

The extractor side bolt is very small compared to the other and the barrel shank is not large enough for a Lapua class chambering that has the potential to be loaded to 70,000 psi.

IF you want Lapua class power in an M70, go with the Edge, not the Lapua.
