Mini 14 problems at the range

I took my daughters to the range yesterday, since they canceled fireworks. We were shooting some AR-15s and a mini 14. Well the mini is new to me but I kept having a failure to eject. Where should I start to look to fix this? I did try two different brands of ammunition no difference.

Is brass hitting the scope by any chance, looks pretty low for a mini.

It might be the windage knob on the scope.
