Ruger mini 14

I think this barrel is trashed. Bore scope show very rusty, pitted, loads of carbin. My friend wants me to clean it up. I am wondering if it is safe to shoot ?? If I clean and polish the bore I still think it will not shoot worth a hoot. What do you think ? Is a new barrel possible. Mine 14 man. 1989, is not a ranch rifle.
