I want to make some brass for a 6mm Rem AI project.
I can get hold of the following good brass and would like to hear your opinions as to what the best parent case would be. (keep in mind that 7x57 Norma brass is not available)

Lapua:
30-06 (would have to be cut down first)
6.5x55 (would end up a bit short)

Norma:
9.3x57
6.5x55
8x57JS

Any advice much apreciated.
P

6.5x55 is larger in diameter than the x57 case the 6mm rem is based on. I wouldn't try to take it down.

The next best bet is 8x57 in the Norma if those choices are all you're willing to use.

Personally, if I didn't want to Rem brass I would get some .257Roberts +P brass from Winchester and use that. Then anneal it after initial fireforming.

What's wrong with plain old Remington or Winchester brass?

Once it's fireformed to your rifle it becomes custom anyway.

You can then turn necks and de-burr flash holes and the like and will probably give you the same amount of life and accuracy as the Lapua or Norma.

A great way of making Remington brass behave like Lapua is to anneal the necks, although this doesn't work for me with Winchester brass, it's too hard elsewhere.

I've had very good results with W-W Super 257Roberts brass when fireforming to 257AI, it's not the +P brass though!

Thank you for the reply's.
I would love to take the easy way and go with 6mm rem brass, but this is not available locally. Supply here is very limited and i have to see if i can make do with what is available.
257 Roberts is not available locally. 257 Wby is, but very expensive.

Do you have mail service or cann't you order brass where you live?

Tom,
I do have email, snailmail, airmail surfacemail and junkmail, but unless i import it myself, i would have to make do with what i CAN get. If the results are good i do not mind doing some case work either.
Hope that gives you a better understanding of the situation.

-thinking i should have stuck to the original plan to use the 200 as good as new 243W Lapua cases i have and just gone 243 AI (but that would have been too easy:D)-
