Can't seem to find any where that has a recipe for 180gr accubonds with IMR 4064.

Worked up a few loads the other day with 180gr partitions and was able to get a 0.667"
5 round group at 100yds with 44.5gr of IMR 4064. Velocity wasn't there I'm sure but for the hunt I'm planning I won't be shooting over 300 yards so it shouldn't matter. The first 3 rounds were sub 0.25" group but I wasn't really letting the barrel cool either. I started the partitions at 43gr. and worked up 0.5gr at a time. I'm going to fine tune the partitions 0.3gr above and below 44.5 just to see if I can notice a difference. and maybe squeeze out a little more velocity. The group noticeably widened with 45gr. The rifle is a model 700 with a 26" barrel.

I'm going to do some more reloading tonight and will probably start the accubonds at 43gr and work up if no one has any other recommendations.

Hope you have better luck than I did with 180s and 4064 I couldn't get the 178gr. Amax or 180 btsp to shoot with 4064 but 50grs of it behind a 165 and its lights out. I went to imr 4350 behind the 180s and its super accurate with good velocity.

I decided to try the OCW method with the partitions again before loading any accubonds since it seemed to do well this morning. I'm headed out friday morning to test it out. Going to see if I can squeeze a little more speed out of it. I have some IMR 4350 on order that should be here next week, I'll save that for the 180gr accubonds since it seems like that's the best powder for them.

I also ordered some sierra gamekings in 165 that will hopefully do well with the rest of my IMR 4064

.667 5 round group? I'd be happy with that.

What velocities are you getting that you are unhappy with?

or paramedic ;)
that's what they call "unlicensed pharmacists" in Colorado now, eh??? :D:D

All kidding aside, I'd go with a bit slower powder with a 180 in a 30'06. The old Hodgdon 26 manual (also a 26" bbl. '06) shows 48 I 4064 with a 180 as max. charge at only 2646 fps. If you are having accuracy issues already at 45 grains you have issues as you are only around 2400 fps. I'd also chrono your loads as at times fast burning powders are more flaky at times to the speed they actually develop with a combo. You may not actually get your bullets to expand past a couple of hundred yards if you are as slow as you could be here. 4064 isn't a bad powder but it has it's limitations.

I started at 55grns. And worked up to 58.5 with imr 4350 with the 178gr. Amax with no pressure found accuracy at 57.5 starting at 57 the loads became compressed but the manual calls for compressed so I wasn't to worried below is a group fired with the 178amax at 250yrds 57.5 imr 4350 3.34 coal.now I'm going to work in .3 tenths of a grain to fine tune.

no chrono, I'm doing it more to tinker. Even if it's only 2400-ish where I'm hunting I won't be shooting past 200-250 yards or so. I'm going to try and find someone with a chrono to borrow.

I haven't finalized my load development yet, but am in the final stages with my .30-06 AI using 7828 SSC and Berger 185 VLD's.

So far i'm on up there with about 106% load compression and no excess pressure signs. If it works the best at 62.0, then QL estimates I should be around 2,860 fps MV with my 26" 1:12 barrel. Maybe faster, if I have a fast barrel? Hopefully I'll be right at 2,900, which will make me happy, as long as it groups really nicely at that velocity.

I won't know until I chrono it with my MagnetoSpeed V2, and I don't chrono until I get my load developed.

Being you have a regular '06, I would look up some load data and start at the minimum and work your way up. But I strongly recommend giving 7828 SSC and Federal 210M primers a try. It will work great with the heavy pills, since it is a slow-burning magnum powder.

I'm getting pretty hot velocities out of my .25-06 AI with 115 Bergers, too.

For anyone else with IMR 4064 and 180gr Partitions found a pretty good combo!

I used the OCW method. Rifle is a Remington 700 Long range (84166) 26" barrel 1-10". Sub MOA rifle for less than $700. Not bad :)

46.3g of 4064 also shot a similar group. (0.1" wider)

For some reason both photos wouldn't post. This is 3 rounds. First two basically went in the same hole.

Street Doctor, for what it is worth to you, I use 53 1/2
gr. h-4350 under a 190 gr. SMK in my 30-06 for a one ragged hole group at 100 yds. Have not checked the speed or shot at distance but it is very accurate.
