Has anyone watched it? I finished the first season and about halfway thru the second. I know it's about 10 years old now but it is quite interesting to me.

A few of the characters have some good tips, tricks for survival and are pretty interesting to watch. Some, like the ones shooting swimming caribou from a boat with a .22, are kinda disturbing. I know it's "their way of life" but the spray and pray techniques for hunting don't sit well with me.

Thoughts?

I used to watch the show a lot a few years ago. I believe that what's on now are all re-runs. Some of them are hunting to put food on their table and the table of others in their village. Emotions on how they kill the animals that keep them alive don't come into play.

They probably don't care what we think about their way of hunting.

When they agreed to let it be filmed for their own financial gain, they should care 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don't we all hunt to put food on the table? Do we shoot anything that moves or wound animals? One guy is a felon that can't use guns so he lets his daughters and wife do the shooting/wounding then he'll run up and slit their throat with a knife.

Typical problem of our mentality. They still don't care. You are irrelevant to them

Yes, I watched all of the episodes simply for their entertainment value.

You remember that time when they found a sane group of people and followed them around for reality tv.... yeah me neither.

Have interfaced with a few of them as the residual residents of the artic is quite small. Was affectionately called "mental illness on ice" locally.

I never watched the show. I usually don't watch reality tv because it's "usually" not based much in reality. Our hunting down here is more for sport. Some of us augment our food supply with hunting. But theirs's might be more based on survival than augmenting. Maybe akin to native Americans gill netting salmon and we use a hook and fishing pole.

IMHO, what they agreed to was to filmed showing what they do and how they do it to buy more stuff to survive. Starvation or hunger is a reality, and when an opportunity arises to prevent that it must be taken. It's looked upon as a blessing if you will, and how that stockpile of food is increased is really no concern to them.

Everyone else on the show seem to survive just fine without having to shoot caribou swimming in a river.

I thought "natives" are known to care about the land and live in harmony with all the creatures...not just murder everything that moves and call it "survival" and "traditional ways"...
